SUMMARY:General Osteopathic Technique (GOT)
DESCRIPTION:Course Highlights:\n\n Orderly and coordinate sequence of arti
cular long lever techniques\, allowing the diagnosis and the treatment of
the zones of spinal and peripheral limitations by mobilisation of joints a
nd relaxations of soft tissues.\n GOT addresses all parts of the patient
's body passively laid in supine prone side position\, successively and b
ilaterally.\n Originally\, the GOT emphasised the spinal axis and the hea
d and limbs were not considered.\n Pierre Vey improved it by adding in th
e extremities component.\n GOT is a global approach inside which sp
ecific techniques can be applied.\n Its ultimate aim is physiological wi
th the recovery of the homeostasis\n\nIndications For GOT Treatment:\n\n
Usable even without any precise indication\, because assessment &amp\; tre
atment are done simultaneously and holistically on principle.\n Frame of
healthcare in which the specific techniques can find their place.\n\nPHYSI
OLOGICAL CASES:\n\n Elders with multiple pains\n Sportsmen: preparation
and recovering\n Disabled\, or any person needing to be mobilised (mainta
in flexibility\, raise vitality level)\n\nPATHOLOGICAL\, CHRONIC and ACUTE
CASES:\n\n CHRONIC CASES:  Treatment must be general (fight against com
pensations).\n ACUTE CASES:  Specific or partial treatment can increase
symptoms (painful zone).\n\nINDICATIONS HEADLINES:\n\n Regulation of eli
mination\,\n Neurological system: Articular work: effects on mechanorecep
tors\, CNS integration\n Circulatory system (blood and lymph): Avoids sta
 sis by softening soft tissues\; T4-L3: vasomotrocity\, visceromotricity\,
  proximity of IVC &amp\; aorta\n

SUMMARY:Visceral Manipulation 1
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\nIn this course\, you will be introduced to the
models and concepts of functional biomechanics as viewed from Jean-Pierre
Barral’s Visceral Manipulation approach. This method of evaluation and
treatment is based on the concept that each of our internal organs rotates
on a physiological axis. Focus is on the abdominal cavity and includes th
e organs\, their membranes\, ligaments\, innervation and their spatial fun
ctional interrelationships. You will learn basic manipulations for correct
ing abnormal motions and stress patterns within this cavity. Participants
will learn basic manipulations for correcting abnormal motions and stress
patterns within this cavity. It includes lecture\, demonstration and pract
ice for each technique presented.\nCourse Outcomes\nAt the end of the four
days course\, participants will have the knowledge to\n\n Explain the dy
namics of motion and suspension in relation to organs\, membranes and liga
ments\, and the related fascial implications.\n Evaluate the functional m
ovement of the abdominal organs through mobility and motility assessments.
\n Identify and explain the abdominal organ mechanical relationship to th
e lumbar spine\, pelvis and extremities.\n Explain and implement visceral
manipulation techniques for chronic low back pain\, shoulder dysfunctiona
l patterns\, unexplained diaphragm dysfunction\, hypo and hypermobility of
the spine\, bladder\, bowel or pelvic problems due to loss of abdominal p
ressure system.\n Demonstrate manual skills to locate\, evaluate and norm
alize primary areas of fascial dysfunction within the abdominal cavity.\n
List common causes of visceral restrictions\, precautions to visceral man
ipulation and contraindications to visceral manipulation.\n\nRequired Read
ing\nTo prepare for the course we suggest that you read Visceral Manipula
tion by Jean-Pierre Barral\, RPT\, DO and Pierre Mercier. A list of readi
ng preparation will be sent to you upon registration.\nRecommended reading

SUMMARY:Listening Technique 1
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\nThe most fundamental\, yet most complex\, ques
tion that a practitioner faces when working with a patient is\, "How do I
determine what are the reasons for this person’s pain and dysfunction?"
Listening Techniques 1 (LT1) assists the practitioner in answering that qu
estion. Expanding on the evaluation tools taught in Barral Visceral Manipu
lation: Abdomen 1\, as well as in Barral Neural Manipulation 1\, LT1 is de
signed to reinforce powerful evaluation techniques known as "listening" sk
ills. Listening Techniques’ are palpation tools developed by Jean-Pierre
Barral\, DO\, which enable the practitioner to fine-tune assessment skill
 s. The evaluation phase of a patient’s treatment session is key to long-
lasting results. Through precise evaluation techniques\, the practitioner
is able to determine\, and focus on\, the primary causes of a patient’s
dysfunctional pattern. No matter what type of modalities a practitioner us
es\, this workshop enhances his/her evaluation tools and skills\, which in
turn will lead to greater patient outcomes. The LT1 workshop includes lec
ture\, demonstration and practice for each technique presented.\nCourse Ou
tcomes\nUpon completion of this course\, participants will have learned:\n
\n Practice "listening" techniques (palpation skills) that help guide you
to the appropriate manual manipulation site.\n Learn to interpret the in
formation the body is offering regarding imbalances and dysfunctions.\n D
emonstrate through ”listening” how to determine which body structures
are involved\, and identify the best approach for treatment results.\n Pr
actice ”listening” to the body systems\, as they respond to your manua
l treatments.\n Explain and demonstrate the correct approach and amount o
f force when working on different parts of the body and with different pat
ients.\n Enhance your specificity when evaluating the body for restrictiv
e patterns\, which will enable more effective treatment applications.\n U
nderstand how to incorporate "listening skills" in the patient’s evaluat
ion and treatment plan.\n Enhance palpation sensitivity to increase effec
tiveness with treatment and patient outcomes.\n\nIf you have not studied L
istening Techniques then this class will introduce you to one of the most
powerful evaluation tools that will help you determine where to begin with
your patient treatment.\n\nIf you are not totally comfortable with your L
istening Technique skills\, this class will help you to become proficient
with these evaluation tools.\n\nIf you have been using Local Listening and
General Listening with your patients\, this class will take you to the ne
xt level of your perception and abilities.\nPrerequisite\nVM1\, NM1\, cran
ial training\, lymph training or Mechanical Link. To get the most benefit
from attending LT1\, VM1 is highly recommended as a pre-requisite.\nRequ
ired Reading\nIf you have not had VM1\, please read Chapters 1 and 2 of
  Visceral Manipulation II.\nSuggested Reading\n\n \n\n Atlas of Human A
natomy by Frank Netter\, MD\, and/or\n A Regional Atlas of the Human Body

SUMMARY:Manual Articulation: Upper Extremities (MAUE)
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\nNew Manual Articular Approach (NMAA)\, formerl
y Global Joint Treatment\, is a manual therapy modality that applies a com
prehensive approach to the treatment of joints.\n\n"Articular" refers to t
he joints of the body\, which are critical points of interconnectivity bet
ween all other structures within the body. Joints receive and emit message
s with other parts of the body\, and are also connected to our emotions. N
MAA integrates all aspects of the joint including the nerve\, artery\, bon
e\, capsule\, and ligaments\, as well as visceral and emotional connection
 s. NMAA delves into the joints like never before. It examines the nerves o
 f each joint\, along with the arteries\, meniscus\, ligaments\, capsule at
tachments and folds. It incorporates soft tissue mobilization of the assoc
iated bones\, while looking at direct and indirect relationships between t
he bones of the body. The relationship between the viscera and the joints
is not widely understood. NMAA shows how interconnected they are and that
without addressing this visceral connection many joint issues may not full
y resolve. The application of the gentle NMAA techniques improves the body
's ability to heal and restore itself to optimal health.\n\nA joint is so
much more complex than a place where bones come together. It is comprised
 of multiple components – including bone\, cartilage\, muscles\, tendons\
, nerves\, and fluid – that when functioning properly\, allow the joint
to glide smoothly and pain-free. If one component becomes problematic\, th
e entire joint begins to compensate and not function properly. This leads
to dysfunction ranging from temporary pain to longer term damage. All part
s and systems within the body are interconnected – joints included – a
nd when there is dysfunction in one place\, other areas can be negatively
impacted. A skilled NMAA practitioner can properly assess the interactions
of the joints with the body to help restore proper function.\nCourse Outc
omes\nUpon completion of this course\, participants will have learned:\n\n
Delve into the joints like never before. Examine the nerves of each join
 t\, along with the arteries\, meniscus\, ligaments\, capsule attachments a
nd folds.\n Work with soft tissue mobilization of the associated bones\,
while looking at direct and indirect relationships between the bones of th
e body.\n Explore the relationship between the viscera and the joints.\n
Discover how the joints receive and emit messages with other parts of the
body\, as well as the emotional connections.\n Learn how to evaluate and
treat each major joint of the upper extremity for its primary dysfunction
from the anatomical or physiological systems that contribute to it.\n Ex
plore such indications as clinical pain\, sprains\, arthrosis\, and inflam

SUMMARY:Advanced Visceral Manipulation: Visceral Osteoarticular Relationshi
 ps(AVMVOR)
DESCRIPTION:Course Overview\nThe viscera have a distinct relationship with
the spine and joints throughout the body. This course explores this specia
l interface\, in particular\, how the visceral system affects the structur
al system. Through the integration of advanced visceral manipulation techn
iques\, new possibilities arise for the treatment of osteoarticular dysfun
ctions.\n\nIt is rare to find a spine that is free from fixations\; an art
icular blockage that is solely of mechanical origin is rarely seen. Our ex
perience has shown that articular fixations are often the expression of an
underlying visceral or psychological problem. The cervical spine is a pe
rfect example where a blockage may come from a visceral\, cranial\, circul
 atory\, musculo-ligamentary\, or dural membrane source.\nCourse Outcomes\n
Learn how by treating the visceral system\, you will influence osteoarticu

 tion findings.\nPrerequisite:\nPrerequisite: VM2\nSuggested Reading:\n\n

SUMMARY:Manual Approach to the Brain 2 (MAB2)
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nThe course is organized into two parts—a structural
approach and a functional approach:\n\n The structural approach is aimed
  at the vascular\, nervous\, meningeal\, ocular\, barometric\, and cerebro
spinal fluid circulation systems.\n The functional approach explores the
 sense of smell\, hearing\, sight\, language\, coordination\, proprioceptio
 n\, emotions\, etc.\n\nThe material assists manual therapy practitioners t
o view systemic diseases in a new light. This includes discussions about s
 uch conditions as Parkinson’s disease\, Alzheimer’s disease\, and Mult
iple Sclerosis. Such pathologies and the limitations of manual therapy wit
h regards to helping people with these conditions will be discussed\, as w
ell as how a manual approach to the brain may transcend these limitations
and help alleviate symptoms that people are experiencing due to these dise
ases. Barral shares how precise manual therapy may encourage the central n
ervous system to self-repair and thus may help people with certain conditi
ons. The practitioner will also learn ways to help people who have had a s
troke or ictus.\n\nBecause the brain is inherently plastic\, the tools tha
t the practitioner will learn enables him or her\, in Barral's own words\,
to help restore 'inner bridges' within the brain\, which is vital to the
life of those facing difficulties.\n\nIn short\, the principle underlying
this work is the striking of a balance between the ease of minimum manual
effort and the finesse of maximum manual precision.\n\nManual Approach to
the Brain 2 (MAB2) builds upon the foundations laid in MAB1\, delving dee
per into the intricate workings of the brain. It broadens its scope by inc
orporating additional structures and functions. This comprehensive course
 encompasses a range of areas\, such as the ear\, language\, pain\, emotion
s\, memory and balance.\n\n&nbsp\;\nPrerequisite:\nManual Approach to the

SUMMARY:Neural Manipulation 3: Lower Body
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nThis course explores evaluation and treatment techniq
ues for peripheral nerves of the lower body.\n\nWhen a nerve is fixed\, it
typically loses its ability to glide and/or stretch in length. The intra-
or peri-neural pressure dramatically increases\, at the same time there a
re changes in consistency. The nerve pathway shows functional interference
s (blood supply or electric and/or electromagnetic conductivity).\n\nWith
fixation\, smaller nerve sections can harden. They feel like buds and are
very sensitive or painful to the touch. Such "Nerve Buds" are an indicatio
n of an intraneural interference\, an overload of physiological pressure p
oints or a local fibrosis. Nerve buds can be released very effectively wit
h Neural Manipulation.\n\nPalpation of the skin branches of peripheral ner
ves can be useful for evaluative\, as well for therapeutic considerations.
When evaluating the skin branches\, if they are sensitive or painful to p
ressure\, typically there is a fixation of the deeper nerve branches.\nCou

SUMMARY:Visceral Manipulation: Manual Thermal Evaluation and VisceroEmotion
 al Relationships (VM5)
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nAs Jean-Pierre Barral states\, "Our history is our hi
story and you cannot take that away from someone. What we can do is to 'di
scharge a little something' in order to help the system compensate with ou
r history in an easier way".\n\nVM5 is divided into 2 parts:\n\n Manual T
hermal Evaluation\n Visceral Emotional Listening\n\nManual Thermal Evalua
tion –\nThis is an evaluation method developed by Jean-Pierre Barral\,
DO\, MRO(F) that utilizes sensitivity to temperature changes to identify d
ysfunction within the body. It is useful across a wide spectrum of health
disciplines and augments other forms of evaluation.\n\nBarral developed th
is "topographical map" of the physical structures that we have been learni
ng in the previous levels. He developed this "map" with the assistance of
engineers and a physicist who helped him design an instrument (thermal sca
nner) that measures "heat" coming off the body - infrared heat that is the
same temperature as dysfunctional tissues within the body. This was the m
easuring tool to validate Barral's hands for this "off the body" scanning
 - another evaluation tool for physical and emotional dysfunctions. This ma
p shows where both physical and emotional dysfunctions are held in the bod
\nVisceral Emotional Listening -\nA basic tenet of Barral Visceral Manipu
lation is that the body is able to heal itself unless accumulated stress i
s too great. We accept that:\n\n Musculoskeletal structure is involved in
many diseases\n Emotions contribute to physical problems / many diseases
.\n Emotions can be stored in the body.\n Emotions are our emotional ana
tomy.\n Emotions affect visceral dysfunction.\n\nHowever\, there are few
systems to palpate\, evaluate and treat emotions. Emotions should dissipat
e - flow through you - not become an overwhelming amount of stored energy!
Tissues become stressed if emotion stays in an organ or when the same org
an is stressed over and over. Jean-Pierre Barral found that if a large amo
unt of energy is tied up in the process of storing emotion\, there is less
energy available to adapt to current situations. Jean-Pierre also finds t
hat patients often suffer because depending on who is treating them\, they
are often told either "It is all in your head" or "Your problem is purely
structural". The VM5 course is as much about finding emotional connection
s as it is about discovering that a physical problem might well be just th
at.\n\nIn VM5 we review each of the body cavities and revisit some of the
techniques learned in VM1-VM4\, as we learn new evaluative tools for liste
ning to the "messages of the body." The techniques learned are essential t
o the whole person evaluation and treatment. Each organ holds emotions\; i
t is our "stop gap system" for the mind. Primarily the organs and the plex
i hold emotions\, and when discharged\, the body/mind communication can be
restored.\n\nWithin the curriculum we focus on the organs and their relat
ionships to the neuromusculoskeletal structures. We realize we are "waking
up a little something in this process"\, as Barral often states. Now we a
re deepening the understanding of that often-times-illusive link between b
ody and mind. Barral's techniques for working with the emotions of the bod
y are as specific as his techniques for working with physical structures.
We do not guess where emotions are stored\; we feel them with our hands. W
e help the body "discharge" those areas of restrictions that are decompens
ating the system.\n\nWe discuss how movement is the key to life. Now we re
alize that without emotions there is no real living of life. It is normal
to have emotions\; it is life. Where we run into problems is when these em
otions are not discharged. Our history is our biology.\n\nThis class allow
s the practitioner to go deeper into the evaluation of dysfunctions of the
body and the integration of body/mind in a "tissue listening" way.  The
tools learned in this class are as specific as those learned in the previo
us levels of the visceral work. This work is unique with its "nonverbal di
aloguing" and mechanical ways of linking body to mind.\nCourse Outcomes\n\
n Discover the scientific understanding of body heat\, and the clinical s
ignificance of changes in surface temperature.\n Learn the use of Manual
Thermal Evaluation to find restrictions and organ dysfunction in the body.
\n Review VM1-VM4 while learning topography of the organs and their manua
l thermal palpation.\n Explore the synchronicity between the body and bra
in\, and how that affects the health of a person.\n Discover how the brai
n uses the internal organs to discharge and express excess energy (often o
f emotional origin) and how that affects structural integrity.\n Learn sp
ecificity of working with structure and the emotions.\n Help the body dis
charge stored emotional energy with precision\n Practice working with ene
rgy loss\, locating structural restrictions contributing to pain\, and man
aging a therapeutic session.\n Evaluate if emotion is 0%\, 1% or 100% of
 the problem.\n\n Prerequisite:\nPrerequisite: VM3 and VM4.\n Suggested R
 eading:\n\n Atlas of Human Anatomy by Frank Netter\, MD\, and/or\n A Reg
ional Atlas of the Human Body by Carmine Clemente.\n

SUMMARY:Integrated Visceral and Fascial Manual Therapy Course
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nHuman organs support the internal functions of life\,
while the musculoskeletal system provides the external structure that all
ows movement\, posture\, and stability. When the musculoskeletal system fu
nctions well\, it creates optimal conditions for healthy metabolism\, nerv
 ous system regulation\, breathing\, circulation\, hormonal balance\, and g
enitourinary function. Likewise\, dysfunction in internal organs can direc
tly affect movement and posture.\n\nSince 2017\, the Barral Institute Mala
ysia has been introducing the series of Barral Institute manual fascial re
lease courses\, including Visceral Manipulation and Neural Manipulation. W
ith the addition of New Manual Articular Manipulation approaches\, therapi
sts have gained a broader perspective for evaluating and treating the body
as an integrated whole.\n\nThese manual techniques have helped clinicians
manage complex and challenging cases. However\, many therapists continue
to ask an important question:\nHow can osteopathic manual techniques be in
tegrated with physical therapy assessment\, movement training\, and exerci
se prescription?\nTo answer this need\, we are pleased to invite Dr. Rene
Assink\, an experienced clinician with a strong background in both osteopa
thy and physical therapy\, to teach his Integrated Visceral and Fascial Ma
nual Therapy Course.\n\nThis course focuses on understanding how internal
organs\, fascia\, and the neuromusculoskeletal system interact. Students w
ill learn to distinguish between injury and dysfunction and to apply a sys
temic approach to evaluation and treatment.\n\nWhile hands-on visceral and
fascial techniques can improve mobility and function\, these changes may
not last without proper support. By combining manual therapy with appropri
ate therapeutic exercise and movement training\, clinicians can help patie
nts maintain long-term improvements. This course highlights how osteopathy
and physical therapy work together to achieve more stable and meaningful
clinical outcomes.\nCourse Outcomes\nBy the end of this course\, students
will be able to:\n\n Understand the basic principles of General Osteopath
ic Techniques (GOT) and Myofascial Release (MFR)\n Evaluate and apply sho
rt-lever GOT techniques to the visceral fascial system\n Identify and tre
at long myofascial–visceral dysfunction chains\n Clearly differentiate
between injury and dysfunction\n Integrate internal organ function into a
whole-body balance and coordination model\n Recognise the relationship b
etween visceral fascia and neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction\n Develop han
ds-on assessment and evaluation skills\n Understand the role of the diaph
ragm’s central tendon in posture and the body’s central axis\n Learn
specialised techniques to address central tendon dysfunction\n Apply ther
apeutic exercises to support and maintain the effects of visceral and fasc
 ial manual therapy\n\n&nbsp\;\nWho Should Attend\n\n Physical therapists\
 n Osteopaths\n Manual therapists\n Rehabilitation professionals\n Stud
ents seeking a holistic\, systems-based approach to movement and manual th
 erapy\n
